MOONACHIE, NJ — A man shot by New Jersey State Police in Bergen County on Wednesday has died, and the state Attorney General's Office is investigating the fatal police-involved shooting.
The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. Oct. 28 on Gotham Parkway near West Commercial Avenue in Moonachie, according to the Attorney General's Office.
The incident is an update to the earlier report of a man shot in the neck in nearby Carlstadt before his vehicle crashed into a building at 131 West Commercial Avenue in Moonachie.
The man was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he later died, according to the state investigation announcement.
Neither the man nor the trooper involved has been publicly identified. Authorities have not disclosed what led to the encounter, whether the man was armed or how many shots were fired.
Moonachie borders Carlstadt and sits just south of Teterboro Airport in Bergen County.
Under New Jersey law, the Attorney General's Office investigates deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement officers acting in their official capacity. The investigation must be presented to a grand jury to determine whether the evidence supports criminal charges against the officer or officers involved.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details.
