FAIR LAWN — A mother and her young child were seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday morning in Fair Lawn, authorities said.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Fair Lawn Parkway.
The two victims were treated at the scene before being transported in separate ambulances to Hackensack University Medical Center’s main campus.
Fair Lawn police shut down one eastbound lane of Broadway for an extended period as investigators worked to document the crash and search for the driver who fled the scene.
An older-model silver Honda Pilot that was seen leaving the area shortly after the crash has emerged as a primary vehicle of interest in the investigation.
Fair Lawn Ambulance and Bergen County EMS crews provided emergency medical care, treatment and transportation to the victims.
The investigation was conducted with assistance from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and work to identify the driver.
