NEW MILFORD, N.J. — New Milford voters handed Democrats a decisive victory Tuesday, electing Michael Putrino as mayor and giving the party both available Borough Council seats in a clean sweep of the town's municipal elections.
Putrino defeated Republican Laure Schroeder by more than 2,100 votes, receiving 3,722 votes to Schroeder's 1,610, according to unofficial Bergen County election results.
Putrino captured nearly 70% of the mayoral vote, making the race a comfortable win for the Democrat.
His party also dominated the council contest.
Democrat Matthew Seymour topped the four-candidate field with 3,449 votes, followed closely by fellow Democrat Ira Grotsky with 3,403.
Republicans Joseph LoPorto and Malcolm Sillars finished well behind with 1,889 and 1,777 votes, respectively.
The results give Democrats all three available municipal seats, with neither Republican council candidate coming close to breaking through.
Voters also settled a four-candidate race for three Board of Education seats.
Kendra Moore led the school board field with 2,179 votes, followed by Nicole Dunne with 2,130.
Raymond Cottiers Sr. secured the third seat with 1,661 votes, holding off David Spektor, who finished fourth with 1,527.
Cottiers' 134-vote margin over Spektor made the final school board seat the closest of New Milford's local contests.
Despite New Milford's Jewish community, none of the local candidates received an endorsement from the Bergen County Jewish Action Committee (BCJAC).
New Milford voters also approved a municipal public question, with 2,722 voting yes and 759 voting no, a margin of more than three to one. The county's results summary reports the vote but does not identify the question's subject.
The results are based on Bergen County's unofficial November 3, 2026 election report, refreshed at 10:21 p.m., and include early voting, Election Day ballots and partial mail-in results.
