PARAMUS, N.J. — All lanes of Route 17 south were shut down in Paramus Monday evening after a 32-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene near Westfield Garden State Plaza, authorities said.
The woman’s injuries were not immediately known.
Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti said the driver fled after striking the pedestrian, prompting an investigation that brought in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced around 5:30 p.m. that all southbound traffic was being detoured at Route 4.
The Bergen County Traffic Incident Management Safety Unit was coordinating traffic detours as authorities investigated the crash, Guidetti said.
Motorists were advised to avoid Route 17 south near Garden State Plaza and seek alternate routes until further notice.
