SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A Teaneck woman was seriously injured Sunday when a tire that came loose from another vehicle flew across a New Jersey highway and slammed into her car, authorities said.

The 59-year-old woman was driving south on Route 1 in South Brunswick between Beekman Road and Sand Hills Road when a tire came off a northbound vehicle, bounced over the concrete median and crashed through the windshield of her sedan, according to South Brunswick police.

Her vehicle then crashed.

Emergency workers spent about a half hour cutting the Teaneck woman out of the wreckage, police said. She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

The other driver, a 19-year-old East Windsor man, was not injured. Police issued him a summons for failure to maintain a vehicle.
