TEANECK, N.J. — A Neptune man accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from a Teaneck resident’s bank accounts had already been arrested in Ocean County earlier this year, according to police reports.

Benjamin Grinley, 34, was arrested Aug. 18 after New Jersey State Police stopped him during a traffic stop and discovered an outstanding Teaneck warrant.

The Teaneck investigation began Dec. 10, 2025, when a resident reported that his bank accounts had been compromised. About $9,850 had been fraudulently withdrawn from a bank in Flemington, police said.

Detective Selena Sustache investigated the case for the Teaneck Police Department, obtaining grand jury subpoenas, reviewing banking records and examining surveillance video from multiple locations.

Investigators identified Grinley as the person allegedly responsible for the unauthorized transactions, police said.

He faces charges of third-degree theft by deception, identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and false government documents, along with a fourth-degree offense involving false government documents.

But the Teaneck case is not Grinley’s first recent run-in with police.

In March, Lakewood police arrested Grinley, then 33, after a March 21 motor vehicle stop. At that time, Lakewood Police said he was wanted on an active NCIC warrant from Delaware.

During that investigation, officers also arrested Kyle Martin, who police said was taken into custody again after suspected controlled dangerous substances were found. A K-9 unit from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department assisted.

The March arrests came just days after another Lakewood drug investigation in which police said they recovered suspected crack cocaine, heroin, MDMA and marijuana, along with packaging materials believed to indicate drug distribution.

Grinley was charged and taken to the Ocean County Jail following the March arrest, according to Jersey Shore Online.

Months later, Teaneck police were still trying to locate him in connection with the alleged bank theft.

That changed when state troopers stopped him Aug. 18 and found the outstanding Teaneck warrant.

Grinley was processed by Teaneck police and lodged in the Bergen County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center pending his first appearance in Superior Court.
