BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Bergen County could be in for another round of heavy rain Sunday night, raising fresh concerns about flooding after a summer that has already brought several major storms and significant flooding across the county.

Sunday will start partly cloudy before clouds increase, with a 40 percent chance of showers after 2 p.m. Temperatures are expected to reach about 82 degrees.

The rain becomes more likely Sunday night, with an 80 percent chance of showers and between a quarter and half an inch of new precipitation possible. Locally higher amounts could fall in heavier downpours.

The National Weather Service said North Jersey faces a lower overall flooding risk than central and southern parts of New Jersey, but localized flash flooding remains possible.

That is particularly notable in Bergen County, where repeated heavy storms this summer have overwhelmed drainage systems, flooded roadways and caused significant disruptions in communities across the county.

Forecasters are also calling for south winds of 7 to 9 mph Sunday night, with gusts potentially reaching 21 mph.

Monday could bring another round of unsettled weather, with showers likely and thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. The morning could be foggy before skies become partly sunny, with temperatures climbing to around 84 degrees.

With more rain potentially arriving on already saturated areas and in communities that have experienced flooding this summer, residents should monitor the forecast and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions Sunday evening.
