TEANECK, NJ — The Teaneck High School community is mourning the death of longtime business teacher Gorki Marcelo, who died Thursday at the age of 47.
Interim Superintendent Angela R. Davis announced Marcelo's death in a letter to the school community. The district did not disclose a cause of death.
“Mr. Marcelo was a dedicated educator and colleague whose presence touched the lives of students, staff, and families throughout our school community,” Davis said. “His commitment to his students and his contributions to Teaneck High School will be remembered with great appreciation.”
Marcelo was a native of the Dominican Republic and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
The district said grief counseling will be available beginning Aug. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will continue during the first week of school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Bergen County Traumatic Loss Coalition will also be at the school on Sept. 3 to provide counseling for students and staff.
“We are grateful for Mr. Marcelo's service to our students and our District,” Davis said, adding that the district will “honor and remember the impact he made as an educator, colleague, and member of the Teaneck Public Schools community.”
