TEANECK, N.J. — A former Bergen County high school baseball prospect has been charged in a string of vehicle burglaries across the area after investigators say he targeted unlocked cars, stole credit cards and used them in fraudulent shopping attempts in New York City.

According to a Thursday report by News 12 New Jersey, Royer Stanley Moreno-Cedeno, 22, of Englewood, was arrested by the NYPD in New York City on July 16 and later extradited to New Jersey, where he was lodged at the Bergen County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center.

Authorities say Moreno-Cedeno committed at least 15 vehicle burglaries, along with numerous additional attempts, across Tenafly, Teaneck and Englewood Cliffs.

Police said the vehicles were primarily unlocked and targeted during early morning hours, with investigators alleging Moreno-Cedeno stole cash, credit cards and other valuables left inside.

The investigation began after a Tenafly resident discovered her vehicle had been entered and her purse, wallet and other belongings were missing. Later that day, she received alerts showing fraudulent credit card purchases and attempted purchases at New York City retail stores.

Detectives reviewed hours of surveillance footage from residential complexes and businesses before identifying Moreno-Cedeno as the suspect.

Investigators say video showed him entering at least six vehicles in Tenafly while checking others to see whether they were unlocked. Police later connected him to seven vehicle burglaries in Teaneck on June 8 and additional incidents in Englewood Cliffs on June 16.

In one Englewood Cliffs incident, authorities said Moreno-Cedeno arrived on a scooter before walking up a driveway and entering a vehicle.

The case was solved through a coordinated investigation involving detectives from Tenafly, Teaneck and Englewood Cliffs, who shared surveillance footage and investigative information.

Before the alleged crime spree, Moreno-Cedeno was known in local sports circles as a promising baseball player. He graduated from Bergen Catholic in 2023 after previously attending St. Joseph’s Regional High School, where he was considered one of New Jersey’s top left-handed pitching prospects. His fastball reportedly reached around 90 mph, and he later played junior college baseball at Seminole State College in Florida.

A warrant for Moreno-Cedeno’s arrest was entered into the National Crime Information Center database on March 31.

He now faces a total of 18 criminal counts, including seven counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree theft, eight counts of fourth-degree credit card theft and one count of receiving a stolen credit card. Additional charges filed by local departments include burglary, theft, credit card offenses and identity theft.

Police say detectives are continuing to look for additional victims who may have had their vehicles entered during the alleged crime spree.

Authorities are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables, including wallets, cash, electronics and key fobs, before leaving cars parked overnight.
