ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — Camp Mesorah, a summer fixture for generations of Bergen County's Orthodox Jewish families, could soon have a new owner.

Health care mogul Daryl Hagler has offered $5.6 million to buy the upstate New York camp out of bankruptcy, according to court filings.

Hagler's company, DHAN Masores LLC, previously provided financing that helped keep Camp Mesorah operating during bankruptcy proceedings. If the sale is approved, he plans to invest another $2.2 million into the camp.

The bid comes as Simad Holdings, which owns about 30 camps, works through bankruptcy after defaulting on debt and facing investigations in Israel and the United States.

Camp Mesorah, located on more than 100 acres in Guilford, New York, has long drawn campers from Bergen County and the broader Orthodox Jewish community. The property was appraised at $6.1 million earlier this year.

Hagler, co-founder of Centers Health Care and vice chairman of El Al, has become known in recent years for stepping into distressed deals.

His offer sets the floor for competing bids before a bankruptcy judge considers the sale. A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 4.

If approved, the deal could secure the future of one of the best-known Orthodox Jewish summer camps serving Bergen County families.
