BERGENFIELD, N.J. — Bergenfield has secured an additional $250,000 in federal funding for first responder equipment and training, building on more than $2 million in earlier federal investments to modernize the borough's emergency communications systems.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-5) visited Bergenfield Borough Hall last week to recognize local first responders and highlight the latest investment in public safety.

Mayor Arvin Amatorio announced the funding following the visit, crediting the congressman with helping the borough secure resources for its emergency services.

The new grant is intended to support equipment purchases and training for first responders, although borough officials did not specify which equipment would be purchased or which departments would receive the funding.

The $250,000 award follows more than $2 million Gottheimer previously secured to modernize Bergenfield's emergency communications infrastructure, an investment aimed at improving the systems used to coordinate emergency response.

"We are grateful to have worked alongside Congressman Gottheimer to secure a new $250,000 federal grant for first-responder equipment and training," Amatorio wrote in a public statement.

The mayor also thanked the borough's emergency personnel and dispatchers for their work.

"To our first responders and dispatchers: thank you for serving our community every day. We remain committed to giving you the tools and support you need to keep Bergenfield safe."

The borough has not announced a timeline for spending the latest grant or detailed how the new equipment and training funds will be allocated.
