PARAMUS, N.J. — Valley Health System has named Dr. Moo Cho its new medical director of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, bringing a physician with six years of experience at a major California medical group to oversee specialized digestive health care for children in Bergen County.
The appointment, announced Monday, Oct. 26, places Cho in charge of expanding pediatric digestive health programs, improving access to specialty care and coordinating services for children who need hospital treatment or outpatient visits.
Cho will also work to strengthen Valley's partnership with Mount Sinai Health System, giving local patients and their families greater access to specialized medical resources.
“Valley is an organization that shares my commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care,” Cho said.
“I look forward to working alongside our dedicated team to expand access to specialized pediatric gastroenterology services, strengthen our partnership with the Mount Sinai Health System, and ensure that children and families in our community receive the highest quality care close to home.”
In addition to his leadership role, Cho is seeing patients at Valley Medical Group's Pediatric Gastroenterology office at 140 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus.
He treats children from birth through age 18 for digestive disorders, liver disease and nutritional problems.
His work includes performing upper endoscopies and colonoscopies, procedures used to examine the digestive tract and diagnose gastrointestinal conditions.
Cho said digestive health problems can affect nearly every part of a child's life, including growth, school, social activities and family routines.
He emphasized the importance of working closely with parents, listening to their concerns and involving families in decisions about their children's treatment.
Before joining Valley, Cho spent six years as a partner physician with Southern California Permanente Medical Group at Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center.
His professional interests also include improving clinical quality and developing medical programs.
The appointment is part of Valley's effort to expand pediatric specialty services and provide families with more treatment options closer to home.
