ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — Police rushed to Elisabeth Morrow School after a reported threat Thursday, later determining the incident appeared to be a swatting hoax, authorities said.
Englewood police responded to the private school on Lydecker Street on Oct. 15 and worked with school staff to implement precautionary safety measures for students, employees and the surrounding community, Police Chief Thomas Greeley said.
Investigators determined the report appeared to be a case of swatting, in which someone makes a false threat to trigger an emergency law enforcement response.
Police said there was no known credible threat to the school or the public.
The incident unfolded in the heart of Englewood’s Jewish community, putting the reported threat close to a major center of Jewish life in Bergen County.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not disclosed the origin of the report or identified any suspects. Police said additional information would be released when appropriate.
The Englewood Police Department thanked school staff and local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies for their assistance.
Elisabeth Morrow School is a private school serving children from early childhood through eighth grade.
