TEANECK, N.J. — Holy Name Medical Center has earned national accreditation for its breast care program from the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.

The accreditation recognizes breast centers that meet national standards for comprehensive breast disease and cancer care, including prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

Holy Name’s Breast Center offers 3D mammography and other screening and diagnostic services, with board-certified radiologists, registered nurses and female breast imaging technologists. Patients can receive breast care services in one location during a single appointment.

“The accreditation is a testament to our commitment to meeting and exceeding nationally recognized standards and enhancing the cancer care experience for patients and families in our community,” said Dr. Vasantha Kondamudi, executive vice president and chief medical officer at Holy Name.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, known as NAPBC, is an American College of Surgeons program focused on multidisciplinary and integrated breast care. Accredited centers are evaluated against standards covering the full range of a patient's breast cancer or breast disease care.

The accreditation also makes Holy Name an ACS Surgical Quality Partner.

According to the American College of Surgeons, the Surgical Quality Partner designation recognizes institutions committed to evaluating their surgical care, improving procedures and maintaining ongoing quality improvement.

“ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality,” said Dr. Patricia L. Turner, executive director and chief executive officer of the American College of Surgeons. “As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Holy Name has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement.”

Holy Name is New Jersey’s only independent Catholic health system. The system includes a 361-bed acute care hospital, a cancer center, a residential hospice and a nursing school.
