FORT LEE, N.J. — A man apparently decided the back of a moving flatbed truck was the place to be for his trip across the George Washington Bridge.

Video obtained by News 12 shows the bizarre and dangerous scene as the so-called “flatbed surfer” stood on the exposed bed of a commercial truck crossing the upper level of the bridge into New Jersey.

The footage was recorded around 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, as the truck headed toward Fort Lee.

The man is seen standing upright on the back of the moving vehicle, completely exposed as the truck travels across the bridge.

There is no apparent safety equipment protecting him from falling off the truck or being struck by traffic.

And there was plenty of traffic.

It is unclear where the flatbed originated or where the driver eventually stopped.

It is also unclear whether the driver knew the man was riding on the back.

Authorities have not reported any injuries from the incident.

Port Authority Police have been notified of the footage and are reviewing what happened.

The video captures the man casually riding across the bridge as the truck continues toward New Jersey, turning a routine morning crossing into a dangerous stunt.

For now, there is no word on who the flatbed surfer is or why he was riding on the back of the truck in the first place.
