HACKENSACK, N.J. — Hackensack University Medical Center has been named one of the 100 “Great Hospitals in America” by Becker’s Hospital Review, placing the Bergen County medical center among an elite group of hospitals recognized for their performance and reputation.

Hackensack University Medical Center was one of just two New Jersey hospitals to make Becker’s 2026 list, alongside Morristown Medical Center.

The annual list recognizes 100 hospitals across the country based on distinctions from respected health care ranking organizations including U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, Healthgrades, CMS and The Leapfrog Group.

The hospitals are listed alphabetically rather than ranked against one another.

Becker’s honored the hospitals “for outstanding performance across a broad spectrum of specialties.”

Hackensack University Medical Center, part of Hackensack Meridian Health, was highlighted for its recent national recognition and standing in New Jersey.

In 2025, the nonprofit teaching and research hospital became the first hospital in New Jersey to be included among the nation’s top 20 hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, according to Becker’s.

While Hackensack University Medical Center did not retain a top 20 national ranking in the 2026-27 U.S. News cycle, it retained its No. 1 ranking in New Jersey.

The hospital has also taken on a prominent role beyond routine medical care. Earlier this year, Hackensack University Medical Center served as the official hometown hospital and medical anchor for the New York-New Jersey World Cup 2026 Host Committee.

The recognition comes as Hackensack University Medical Center continues to serve patients from across Bergen County and the surrounding region.

Becker’s 100 Great Hospitals list includes some of the biggest names in American health care, including Mayo Clinic, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic.

The publication says its selections are based on hospitals receiving recognition from major health care ranking organizations and other measures of performance.

For Bergen County, the inclusion puts Hackensack University Medical Center among a select group of hospitals nationally recognized across multiple areas of care.

The second New Jersey hospital named to the list was Atlantic Health’s Morristown Medical Center, which was recognized for nationally ranked specialties including cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, orthopedics and urology.
