TEANECK, NJ — Teaneck Deputy Mayor and National Retail Solutions President and CEO Elie Y. Katz is helping bring a new digital tool to tens of thousands of independent retailers, as NRS launches a direct point-of-sale integration with Uber Eats.

The partnership, announced Aug. 13, connects merchants using NRS' POS platform directly to the Uber Eats marketplace in the U.S. and Canada, allowing independent stores to offer on-demand delivery while managing online and in-store orders through the same system.

“Independent retailers have long been underserved by the digital commerce revolution,” Katz said. “We are committed to ensuring that independent retailers not only survive, but thrive in a digital-first world.”

The integration allows participating retailers to display their existing inventory on Uber Eats in real time. Orders placed through the delivery platform flow automatically into NRS' order management system alongside in-store orders.

The companies said the direct connection eliminates the need for additional hardware, manual data entry or third-party middleware while helping merchants keep inventory accurate across online and physical stores.

Katz, an Orthodox Jewish elected official currently serves as Teaneck's deputy mayor and is completing his final term on the Township Council this year. He has said he does not intend to seek re-election.

The NRS-Uber Eats integration is available to eligible merchants across the United States and Canada, including convenience stores, bodegas, specialty grocers and other independent retailers.

“Independent retailers are an essential part of the neighborhoods they serve,” said Hashim Amin, Uber's head of grocery and retail for North America. “Through our partnership with NRS ... we’re making it easier for tens of thousands of merchants to offer delivery and reach customers in new ways.”

NRS, a subsidiary of IDT Corp., largely controlled by founder and chairman Howard Jonas alongside public shareholders, operates a POS network serving approximately 35,000 independent retail locations. Its platform also provides payment processing, EBT/eWIC acceptance, e-commerce solutions, business cash advances and other merchant services.
