ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — One of Bergen County's best-known kosher restaurants is serving its final pounds of barbecue as a major fire at one of the country's largest kosher meat processing plants ripples through the industry.

The Wandering Que announced this week that it has just two weeks remaining in New Jersey and expects its latest shipment of meat to be its last, with roughly 500 pounds of barbecue available on a first-come, first-served basis for pickup, local delivery and nationwide shipping.

In an email to customers sent July 31, owner and pitmaster Ari White said the ongoing fire at Agristar's central meat processing plant in Iowa has further complicated the restaurant's final weeks.

"With only two weeks left in our NJ, our BBQ time together is running out," White wrote. "While the fire at Agristar's central meat processing plant in Iowa rages into a third day, our last meat delivery this week likely represents the final 500 lbs. of BBQ available."

White noted that Agristar has been the restaurant's primary meat supplier for years.

"If you have enjoyed our meats over the years, then you have enjoyed theirs," he wrote, warning customers to "prepare for a challenging period over the months to come."

The Wandering Que previously announced it would close its Englewood smokehouse after serving its final regular meals before the Nine Days, ending the first permanent brick-and-mortar location for the kosher barbecue brand.

The restaurant first gained a national following as a traveling barbecue operation before opening its East Palisade Avenue location in May 2025, becoming Englewood's first dedicated kosher Texas-style barbecue restaurant. Its hardwood-smoked brisket, ribs, pulled beef and other specialties helped make it a destination for diners across the tri-state area.

Although daily restaurant service has ended, White said all customer orders already placed have either been fulfilled or will ship early this week.

The remaining barbecue inventory will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, with shipping available to customers across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, Minnesota, Vermont, North Carolina and Washington, D.C.

The announcement marks the final chapter for one of the region's most recognizable kosher barbecue brands while highlighting what White says could be a broader challenge facing the kosher meat industry in the months ahead.
