TENAFLY, N.J. — Tenafly Police Chief Michael Greeley has been sworn into the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, formally joining the countywide organization alongside three other newly appointed police chiefs.
Greeley was sworn in at the association’s monthly meeting along with Chief Riedel of Saddle River, Chief Lanzilotti of Cresskill and Chief Farrell of Rutherford.
“Congratulations to all the new Chiefs!” the association said in a social media post. “We look forward to working with you as we continue our success as an organization!!”
The swearing-in comes as Greeley begins his tenure leading the Tenafly Police Department following his appointment earlier this year.
As previously reported, Greeley’s appointment has been challenged in court by Tenafly police Capt. Michael deMoncada, who is suing the borough claiming he was passed over in favor of his brother-in-law getting the nod for chief.
DeMoncada is also Greeley’s brother-in-law, adding a particularly unusual family dynamic to the ongoing legal dispute over the department’s top job.
Greeley now joins the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association as the legal battle over his appointment continues.
