WASHINGTON — Rep. Josh Gottheimer slammed Hasan Piker as an antisemite and urged Democrats to cut ties with the controversial streamer during a Tuesday morning interview with Dana Perino on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”

Gottheimer appeared on the program after Piker suggested that Jewish Americans who publicly support Israel could eventually face violence.

Gottheimer said Piker had “basically put an open call-out for violence against Jewish Americans” and praised House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries for condemning Piker’s comments.

“I couldn’t agree more with Hakeem Jeffries,” Gottheimer said.

Gottheimer said Piker, who he noted has more than a million followers on Twitch and has campaigned with Democrats around the country, should be condemned by members of both parties.

“We introduced a resolution months ago condemning Hasan Piker and Candace Owens,” Gottheimer said. “It’s time we said enough is enough with this blatant hatred against anyone.”

Gottheimer also took aim at Michigan Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who responded to Piker’s remarks by saying antisemitism is a scourge and that he opposed rhetoric that puts the community at risk.

“El-Sayed’s response is pathetic and didn’t answer the call,” Gottheimer said. “He did not condemn Piker. He didn’t mention Piker.”

Gottheimer said El-Sayed should have made clear that he would no longer campaign with Piker, whom he appeared with on election night during his primary campaign.

“No Democratic members should allow Piker anywhere near them on the campaign trail,” Gottheimer said. “They should want nothing to do with this guy.”

He also criticized other comments attributed to Piker, including his statements about 9/11, his praise of Lenin and his views on Iran.

“This is not a guy who any of us should embrace,” Gottheimer said.

Asked about Piker’s argument that Zionism and Judaism are separate and that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism, Gottheimer rejected the distinction.

“When you have New York City people attacking synagogues, when you have got people going after and boycotting Jewish businesses, not only nothing to do with Israel, that’s antisemitism,” he said.

“Hasan Piker is an antisemite. It is what it is.”

Gottheimer called on members of Congress to publicly condemn Piker.

“Anyone who does and is does not condemn them bears responsibility for comments like that,” he said. “You can’t allow this kind of rhetoric to go out there.”

“Everyone should come out against this guy and vote to condemn him when we get back to Congress.”
