FAIR LAWN, N.J. — A selfie stop at three popular Fair Lawn kosher businesses could put residents in the running for a brand-new TV or PlayStation 5.
The borough’s fifth annual Small Business Scavenger Hunt is underway, with Fair Lawn Road House, Java Nut and Zadie's Bakery among the participating locations.
The monthlong event, organized by Fair Lawn Main Street Inc. and the Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce, gives residents a chance to support local businesses while competing for prizes through Aug. 31.
For many in Fair Lawn’s Jewish community, the scavenger hunt offers an opportunity to visit some of the borough’s kosher establishments while taking part in a growing summer tradition.
To enter, participants must take a selfie or photo in front of participating businesses or submit a receipt showing proof of purchase. Photos and receipts must be emailed to Ryan Greff at rgreff1@ramapo.edu by Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m.
Every five businesses visited earns participants an entry into a raffle for one of 10 gift cards to local businesses. Those who visit 10 participating locations will be entered into the grand prize drawing for a flat-screen TV or a PlayStation 5.
The scavenger hunt, now in its fifth year, has continued to grow. The first event drew about 300 submissions, while last year’s competition received 1,258 entries.
“Even though it’s the fifth year, there are still so many exciting new places that people can go and visit,” said Ryan Greff, executive director of Fair Lawn Main Street Inc. “It’s going to be a new experience for those who have participated in years past.”
Greff said the summer months can be slower for local businesses as families travel, and the scavenger hunt gives residents a reason to explore businesses close to home.
“People thrive to participate in experiences,” he said. “The small business scavenger hunt is a really opportune summer experience that brings people in, which is why we’ve seen year-over-year increases.”
The contest runs through Aug. 31, giving Fair Lawn residents the rest of the month to visit local businesses, grab a selfie and enter for a chance to win.
