FAIR LAWN, N.J. — More than 300 campers at the Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp welcomed Bergen County elected officials Friday for the camp's annual group photo and summer visit, a tradition that has become a highlight of the camp's season.
The camp, operated by Bris Avrohom Fair Lawn, serves more than 300 children from 30 Bergen County communities and has grown significantly since opening 19 years ago with just 50 campers.
This year's annual photo brought together campers, counselors, county officials and Bris Avrohom supporters to mark another successful summer.
Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco also stopped by the camp, later sharing photos from the visit on social media.
"Had a great time visiting campers at the Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp this morning to wish them a fun, safe, and memorable summer!" Tedesco wrote. "This annual visit is a tradition we always look forward to, and it's wonderful to see so many campers enjoying everything the day camp has to offer. Thank you to Rabbi Kanelsky of Bris Avrohom for organizing another great visit!"
In addition to traditional summer camp activities, campers enjoy daily swimming, hot lunches, frequent trips and overnight experiences throughout the season.
Organizers say the camp also plays an important educational role for many local Jewish families. Many campers do not attend Jewish day schools during the year, giving them an opportunity to learn about Jewish holidays, traditions, the alef-bet and brachot in a fun, hands-on environment while building a strong sense of Jewish identity.
Rabbi Mendel and Elky Zaltzman, together with the camp staff, lead the program and provide daily educational and recreational programming for campers throughout the summer.
Nearly two decades after opening its doors, the Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp continues to draw families from across Bergen County, combining a traditional summer camp experience with Jewish learning and community.
